How do I obtain a driver education learner permit?
The applicant must take the following documents to the BMV:

- Official Birth Certificate. A County or State Board of Health or equivalent agency must have issued it. NOTE: A souvenir birth certificate is not an official record. (Primary Document)
- Social Security card.
- School photo ID, report card, OR bank statement. NOTE: Be sure your street address is on the document. (Secondary Document and Proof of Residency)
- CDE (Certificate of Driver Education). NEIDA will issue this form as proof you registered in a driver education course and dated no sooner than three weeks prior to the start of class.
Be prepared for the following:
- Permit fee. It will cost $9.
- Financial Responsibility statement. A parent or guardian with a valid Driver License or State ID must sign.
- Standard vision screening test. You must pass a vision test.
Extent of Driving Privileges:
